The Bowlers Paradise Hinterland Local League (BPHLL) is set to kick off on February 1st, and will run until March 15th, offering a thrilling season of friendly competition for bowlers across the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
The BPHLL was born in 2013 with a vision to make representative lawn bowls more accessible to local clubs. Recognising the limitations of existing competitions, such as the Superchallenge series, which often involved significant travel distances and high entry fees, the league founders sought to create a more inclusive and affordable option. Their goal was to establish a local competition that mirrored the excitement of the Superchallenge while reducing the financial burden and travel time for participating clubs.
Starting with six Hinterland clubs, the league quickly gained traction and secured Bowlers Paradise as its major sponsor, solidifying its identity as the “Bowlers Paradise Hinterland Local League.” This partnership provided crucial support, ensuring the league’s sustainability and allowing it to flourish.
This year, 16 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams from 11 clubs across the region, including Cooroy, Glasshouse, Kenilworth, Maleny, Mapleton, Nambour, Palmwoods, Pomona, Woombye, and Yandina, will be vying for the coveted titles. The BPHLL provides a valuable platform for bowlers of all skill levels to represent their clubs, fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie within and between clubs.
By offering a more affordable and convenient alternative to existing competitions, the BPHLL encourages greater participation and provides a pathway for aspiring players to develop their skills and potentially progress to higher levels of competition. From its humble beginnings, the Hinterland Local League has grown into a cornerstone of the local bowling scene, offering meaningful competition and opportunities for all.
This year’s BPHLL promises to be another exciting season, filled with friendly rivalry, thrilling matches, and the opportunity for local bowlers to showcase their talent and passion for the sport.
