We advise residents of upcoming truck haul activity between Dulong Quarry and Image Flat Quarry.
Timeframe: Starting on Wednesday 20 May for approximately six weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.
Times: Trucks hauling from 6am to 5pm weekdays and possibly Saturdays.
Location: Trucks will collect existing blasted rock from Dulong Quarry (Dulong School Road and Sherwell Road, Dulong) and transport it to Image Flat Quarry (175 Image Flat Road, Image Flat) for crushing and processing. This truck haul route between quarry sites has been approved by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
These truck haul activities will occur in accordance with the conditions of Council’s environmentally relevant activity (ERA) permit EPPR00777413 issued by the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
Trucks used for haulage
We engage private contractors to transport covered loads of rock from Dulong quarry to Image Flat quarry. These trucks do not carry Sunshine Coast Council branding.
Quarry-related vehicles are among the larger grouping of trucks travelling on roads in the Image Flat and Dulong area. Vehicles operating at Image Flat and Dulong quarry sites include class 4, class 7 and class 8 trucks (truck only or truck and dog trailer).
Many other commercial and private contractor trucks operated by other service providers may also be present for unrelated activities. These include B double trucks which do not service or visit the Image Flat and Dulong quarry sites.
Traffic management and road safety
We will have signage on local roads to advise of quarry trucks operating in the vicinity, during the truck haul timeframe.
For your own safety and the safety of others, please keep the following in mind:
· Slow down – The speed limits are there to protect motorists, pedestrians, road workers, and traffic controllers.
· Be patient – Truck haulage is essential to operations and may cause minor delays. Your understanding helps keep things running smoothly.
· Allow for possible delays – Allow extra travel time to accommodate potential delays.
Please note:
Truck loads are required to be securely restrained and covered when hauling rock sized 150mm or smaller between quarry sites. If product is sized 150mm or larger, it is not a requirement for loads to be covered when hauling this sized rock between quarry sites.
On Queensland roads, speeding is defined as driving at a speed higher than the posted speed limit or at a speed that is inappropriate to the driving conditions. Road users and residents who witness this type of driver behaviour by any vehicle should report observations of illegal driving to Policelink by calling 131 444 or online .
About Council’s quarries
Sunshine Coast Council’s quarries are located at Image Flat and Dulong. Image Flat quarry has been in operation since the 1960s, and Dulong since the 1970s.
Rock product is extracted from Image Flat and Dulong quarry sites through blasting activities using explosives to break the rock. Today these quarries supply premium quality rock products for the construction, maintenance and repair of the region’s 2597km of sealed roads and 474km of unsealed roads.

The Mapleton Parkinson’s Support Group has now officially affiliated with Parkinson’s Queensland and invites individuals impacted by Parkinson’s, their families, friends, and carers to our next meeting.

What to Expect
During blasting activities, residents may experience ground vibration and air overpressure (noise). We utilize best-practice blasting techniques to minimize disturbance to the surrounding community whenever possible.
Regulatory Compliance
All operations are conducted under strict safety and environmental guidelines:
- Noise Limitations: Specified by the Environmentally Relevant Authority (ERA) Permit EPPR00777413, issued by the Department of Environment and Science.
- Contractors: Council’s qualified blasting contractors operate in full compliance with the conditions set under the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
- Purpose: Blasting is essential for extracting rock product used for vital Council infrastructure projects, regional road maintenance, and external commercial supply.

Unfortunately QAGOMA has not been able to provide a gallery guide for our group visit to the Archie Moore exhibition Kith and Kin on April 29.
We have had to change the date.
We hope all interested people can still come on Wednesday 6 May.
The Archie Moore exhibition Kith and Kin is the installation that won the Golden Lion award at the 2024 Venice Biennale. This is an exhibition to be experienced and we hope the tour guide will facilitate deeper understanding.
Archie Moore’s installation traces his Kamilaroi and Bigambul heritage over a representation of 65,000 years alongside his convict relations. This long time frame is set against a central display of documents from Coronial Inquiries from 1991 into the more than 500 Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. These documents are placed over and are surrounded by a reflection pool.
Also on display are two other exhibitions, Snap Blak and Inspiring Archie Moore, that complement Archie Moore’s exhibit.

There is a good thing about changing the date as the train disruption has now been extended to May 1. We will hope all is on track by May 6. but please check timetables.
Our plan is – Travel to Brisbane by train or by private transport.
For those travelling by train we will meet at Nambour and Landsbrough Stations, We will catch the 8:08am train from Nambour to arrive at South Brisbane 10:25am.
Train timetables may change so it will be necessary to check close to the departure date.
We suggest a coffee or brunch at the GOMA Bistro from approximately 11:00am.
We will all meet at the information desk at GOMA at 12:05pm for the 12:15pm Archie Moore guided tour. Please note there is a general tour that leaves at 12:00. This is not our tour.
