The Maleny Wood Expo, an iconic Sunshine Coast tradition, has been cancelled for the 2025 event. The Barung Landcare Management Committee made the difficult decision citing ongoing financial challenges and logistical hurdles. Rising supplier costs, unpredictable weather patterns, stricter contractual agreements, and a decline in sponsorship and investment were listed as key factors.
For over 25 years, the Maleny Wood Expo has been a vibrant showcase of local craftsmanship, celebrating sustainable practices and environmental values. The event attracted exhibitors, visitors, volunteers, and supporters, fostering a strong sense of community.
The cancellation also impacts the Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize, a prestigious woodworking competition, which will not accept entries for 2025.
Despite the setback, the Barung Landcare remains committed to supporting the community and exploring ways to sustain the spirit of the Expo. They are currently reviewing the future of the event.
