Montville Tennis Club Scores Big at Brisbane International

Posted on January 7, 2025

Members and friends of the Montville Tennis Club enjoyed a thrilling day of professional tennis on January 2nd, attending the round of 16 singles matches at the Brisbane International.

The group, who travelled to Brisbane by charter coach, secured prime seats in the Pat Rafter Arena at the Queensland Tennis Centre. They witnessed three captivating matches, showcasing the highest level of women’s and men’s singles competition.

Local excitement surged as Gold Coast’s Kimberly Birrell took on Russian Anastasia Potapova. Birrell displayed exceptional skill and determination, ultimately securing victory in two sets, much to the delight of the crowd and the Montville contingent.

The second match featured a clash between Russian players Polina Kudermetova and Daria Kasatkina, with Kudermetova emerging victorious in a closely contested match.

The final match of the day delivered a thrilling spectacle. French player Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, known for his powerful serve, defeated higher-seeded American Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. Perricard unleashed a barrage of aces, with some serves reaching a blistering 230 km/h, leaving the crowd awestruck.

Following the exhilarating day of tennis, the group returned to the Montville Tennis Clubhouse for a well-deserved celebratory dinner. A delicious buffet and drinks from the bar awaited, providing a fitting conclusion to a memorable outing.
