The 2025 Annual Australia Day Expo, held at the Maleny Showgrounds on January 26th was a great success. Commencing with the complimentary Apex Big Breakfast at 7:00am, the event provided a vibrant atmosphere of community engagement.
A significant highlight was the Citizenship Ceremony at 8:00am, where MP Andrew Wallace formally welcomed new Australian citizens. This solemn occasion was preceded by a flag-raising ceremony.
From 9:00am to noon, the Expo transformed into a hub of activity. A diverse range of activities occupied attendees throughout the morning. Families could take part in an exciting obstacle course, showcasing their agility and teamwork. Sporting enthusiasts had the opportunity to participate in friendly tennis matches and table tennis tournaments. The Rural Fire Service provided information highlighting their vital role in community safety and preparedness. These activities, alongside the passport sticker competition and organisation/club showcases, ensured an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Live demonstrations by local clubs provided valuable insights into the unique offerings of the Hinterland community. From dynamic sporting displays to arts and crafts demonstrations, the Expo showcased the breadth and depth of local talent and interests.
For those wanting a bit of excitement, there was a shooting range. For those seeking a more leisurely pace, croquet provided a charming alternative, while children delighted in colourful face painting. The event was a success, and was characterised by enthusiastic community participation and a warm welcome extended to all attendees. The Expo effectively serves as a platform for attendees to discover new interests, connect with their community, and contribute to the vibrant social fabric of the Hinterland.
