The Barn on Flaxton, a popular restaurant in Flaxton, has been awarded the prestigious Gold for Business at the 2025 Glass House Small Business Awards, also known as “The Glassies.” The annual gala, held on Tuesday, May 28th, at the Woodford Hotel, celebrates the hardworking small businesses and dedicated employees of the Glass House electorate.
Ange, one of the owners of The Barn on Flaxton, shared that while the recognition made the “hard work worthwhile,” it’s “not why they do it.” She emphasised that “one of the biggest rewards is being able to give back to the community.” The Barn on Flaxton is widely known as “a community hub” and has a strong tradition of organising fundraisers for charities like Parkinson’s, Lions, Breast Cancer, and Sunshine Coast Animal Rescue. Currently, the Barn is celebrating its seventh anniversary and is a popular spot for local community groups, including a craft group, and the Flaxton locals’ coffee group.
The selection process for the Gold ‘Glassies’ involves a review by Andrew Powell MP, in close consultation with the Presidents of the local Chambers of Commerce. This ensures the highest honours are bestowed upon truly exceptional businesses and individuals. Over 3,000 public votes were tallied for the Silver awards, while the Bronze Glassies were chosen by the Presidents of the local Chambers of Commerce.
The Barn on Flaxton is celebrated for its coffee, menu, and its uniquely welcoming atmosphere for both human and furry patrons. Beyond their culinary offerings, their consistent contribution to the community through charity fundraisers and events sets them apart, making this top honour a testament to their commitment to quality and community.
